Front of House (FOH) Back of House (BOH) Restaurant Jobs

Front of House (FOH) – Guest-facing roles

  1. Host/Hostess
    • Greets and seats guests
    • Manages reservations/waitlists
  2. Server/Waiter/Waitress
    • Takes orders and serves food/drinks
    • Handles payments and customer requests
  3. Busser
    • Clears and resets tables
    • Assists servers with cleaning and water refills
  4. Food Runner
    • Delivers food from kitchen to tables
    • Works closely with kitchen and servers
  5. Bartender
    • Prepares and serves alcoholic/non-alcoholic drinks
    • Manages bar inventory
  6. Barback
    • Supports bartenders (restocking, cleaning, prep)
  7. Cashier
    • Takes orders and handles payments (more common in fast-casual or counter-service spots)
  8. Sommelier (Fine dining)
    • Wine expert who assists with pairings and selections

Back of House (BOH) – Kitchen and non-visible staff

  1. Executive Chef (Head Chef)
    • Oversees kitchen operations and menu development
  2. Sous Chef
    • Second-in-command, assists executive chef
  3. Line Cook
    • Prepares food according to station (grill, sauté, fry, etc.)
  4. Prep Cook
    • Prepares ingredients, sauces, and basic tasks before cooking
  5. Pastry Chef
    • Specializes in desserts, baked goods
  6. Dishwasher
    • Cleans dishes, kitchen tools, and sometimes helps with basic prep
  7. Kitchen Porter
    • General cleaning and assistance (similar to dishwasher role)
  8. Expeditor (Expo)
    • Coordinates orders between kitchen and front of house
    • Ensures plating standards and timing

Management & Admin

  1. General Manager (GM)
    • Oversees the entire restaurant operation
  2. Assistant Manager
    • Supports the GM, manages shifts, handles issues
  3. Floor Manager
    • Supervises front-of-house staff during service
  4. Kitchen Manager
    • Manages kitchen staff, inventory, and health code compliance
  5. Beverage Manager / Bar Manager
    • Oversees bar operations, drink menu, bar staff
  6. Marketing/Social Media Manager
    • Promotes the restaurant, manages online presence
  7. HR/Recruitment
    • Handles hiring, training, and employee relations
  8. Accountant/Bookkeeper
    • Manages payroll, expenses, and financial records
