Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Technician

Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Technician for Renewables Plant

Conduct front line planned, reactive and breakdown maintenance of EC&I equipment across all plant areas, where you:

  • Install, replace, maintain, fault-find, commission and calibrate all types of Process, Analytical and Valve instrumentation;
  • Conduct fault diagnosis and maintenance of electrical plant and equipment including Motors, Intelligent MCC Switchgear, Variable Speed Drives, Control Panels, Actuators and UPS Systems
  • Work in partnership your colleagues at our other plants with technical investigations and improvement projects

Responsible for EC&I equipment to ensure our plants remain operational

You start by learning about our Biomass Plants and your role as part of our maintenance team. Your knowledge and expertise will be applied in our Templeborough Plant, but you will support other sites as well.

This includes:

  • Focusing on delivering maintenance of EC&I plant and equipment
  • Updating and maintaining maintenance records within the Biomass Power Plant’s Computerised Maintenance Management System(CMMS) in a concise yet detailed manner
  • Actively contributing to the safe, efficient, reliable and cost-effective running of the Biomass Power Plant
  • Being highly motivated and well organised, you will be responsible for the quality of your work, with a target of zero re-work with a strong focus of “right first time” maintenance execution
  • Identifying and recommending maintenance improvement opportunities
  • Working at height, working in inclement weather conditions and work in confined spaces.

Communication & Can-Do-Attitude

You are a keen team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with different disciplines and departments, providing support to the team. It is required that you work under the minimum of supervision, and you will be highly self-motivated, having a can-do attitude with an eye for continuous improvement.

We are passionate about the climate and about teamwork

You will become part of our Maintenance Team. Just like the rest of the organisation, we are proud of our contribution to green energy through unique biomass technologies. In your supportive position, you help us deliver this – and for this, we offer a flexible working day with a great focus on health, safety and the environment. A flexible approach to hours of work, particularly during plant outages is required when weekends, nights and bank holidays will have to be worked.

Essential Experience & Qualifications:

  • Completion of a heavily instrumentation-biased apprenticeship, with ONC / OND in Instrumentation & Control or Electrical / Electronic Engineering, plus NVQ L3 or equivalent City & Guilds qualifications in Electrical maintenance
  • At least 3 years post apprenticeship experience of working within an industrial process
  • Practical maintenance and fault-finding experience of process, analytical field instrumentation and loops, including temperature, level, pressure, flow, pH, conductivity and CEMS systems
  • Knowledge and experience of working on industrial electrical plant such as Motors, Switchgear, Variable Speed Drives and Valve Actuators
  • Experience of working with defined responsibilities within a Safe System of Work, such as a Permit to Work System
  • Experience of using a CMMS such as SAP or Maximo

Desirable Experience & Qualifications:

  • CompEx Ex01-04 Gas and Ex05-06 Dust Modules
  • Experience of working on Safety Instrumented Systems
  • At least 3 years post apprenticeship experience of working in a heavy industrial process sector such as power generation, oil and gas or steel production
  • Knowledge of instrumentation associated with steam raising and steam turbine plant
  • Experience of working on SMART instrumentation using the HART communications protocol

You will be a key player in the successful early life operation of a heavily instrumented, state-of-the-art Biomass Power Plant, utilising modern technology and a high degree of automation.

Nine decades of experience in renewable energy

When B&W Vølund developed its first waste-to-energy plant in 1930, it revolutionized waste disposal techniques. Since then we have grown to become one of the world’s leading suppliers of technology for converting household waste and biomass into heat and power. We are protecting the climate and the environment while producing results for our clients. In today’s climate and environmentally conscious society, high-quality products alone are not enough to achieve success. It is also necessary to have broad, multi-disciplinary experience, strong project management skills, and good empirical designs. By bringing these elements together, we are able to gain the insights needed to ensure the successful completion of today’s sophisticated waste-to-energy and biomass projects.

We are passionate about a world without landfills – are you?
